How meaty does your tech need to be?

A question I posed to myself 6 years ago was "how luxury or 5* does a hotel need to be? " It's a very subjective question but I had a point. At the time, I was running a tour operator and we only sold so-called "5-star" hotels. I wanted to sort the genuine 5*/ Luxury properties from those that claim 5* on the basis of room sizes and facilities. Similarly, I felt there were so-called 4* properties that I would consider as luxury and they should be recognised also. Ultimately, someone's idea of luxury is different than the next but in addition., you may not need the Rolls Royce of resorts for certain holidays or situations.

Six years on and people's perception of luxury has certainly changed, mine included, but you cannot be subjective about pure class and quality. It's either there or it's not. Design is a matter of taste, but not quality. So now I'm applying the same principles to some of the products we sell. For me, there is always a big element of value for money in the purchase decision and that's one of the trickiest things to get across.

Even the meatiest screens are not suitable for all spaces.

However, we feel we can now explain the real value versus the perceived value of our partners' products and this is really helping us sell. We will never sell anything that doesn't have robust build quality, but you don't always have to have a Bugatti when a Porsche will be more than good enough.

For instance certain screen sizes, pixelation and resolution combinations are not suitable for certain size of room, as much as they might be perceived to be best in the market.

Similarly, you might be better off with solar panels than solar glass, weighing up the cost and likely conversion of light into kilowatts.

Whatever improvements you are looking to make, we will give an objective consultation based on your needs.
